.. got lost and found in singapore

I have a dream .. No, dreams! .. a million and one of them that have been and that still are being formulated in my hyperactive mind ever since and everyday. It does not stop, I cant make it stop. I wont make it stop either!

Anyway, I have always had this dream of going to a foreign place by myself. Yes, alone. I'd do the exploring, the photographs, the eating, the walking, the sightseeing, the commuting .. all by myself. I  have always pictured myself getting lost and finding my way back .. and because its such a good excuse to be foolish and crazy and unknowing because nobody really cares if you are, you will just be tagged as "another tourist".   I didn't have a concrete plan on when, where and how i would go about with this. All that I have in mind is the random activities to do and that someday .. it will happen (That cheesy)!

Early this year, my friend Meldrid and I were on the verge of a career move and so we decided to go to Singapore and try what everyone else was doing that time --
book a 3 day ticket, convince the immigration officer you will be visiting only as a tourist then spend the next 30 days job-hunting .. if you get no luck during that time, apply for an extension, when it gets approved, again spend the next 30 days depressed, poor and hungry (kidding!).  So we set everything out, did our research and contacted our Singapore-based allies to help us out.

On March 1, 2012, it was official! Touch down Changi Airport Budget Terminal! Emphasis on the BUDGET .. Changi Airport is known as one of the best airports in the world, so I expected a lot, but no one told me you don't get to testify to that if you landed on the the budget terminal. They really make you feel you booked promo tickets to Singapore.

Anyhow, Meldrid and I lived in separate places .. she stayed with her cousin in Clementi which was 30 minutes away from Outram where I resided with a friend and 7 other housemates . We didn't see each other everyday so on those particular free days that I get from job hunting .. I took the chance to get lost -- on purpose.

Now let me share to you some moments in my LOST SERIES: SINGAPORE EDITION ....

hello MARINA on my first day! -- my SG friends, King and Van were laughing at me when i told them i was having dinner with another group of SG friends, Nikka and Yanna plus Meldrid at Makansutra .. according to them, No one goes to Makasuntra, Marina Bay and Merlion Park on their first day! Nobody but MOI! :)
Marina was a primer .. I really didn't get lost that day. This is! the date: March 16, 2012
Outram is a really nice clean place (well, the whole of Singapore is actually) .. it is convenient and accessible to almost everything. So one afternoon, I decided this would be the time to get lost and then just surprise my self where'd Id be next -- no maps, no research, no anything. So I walked around the area, straight ahead from where I was until i reached this! Tanjong Pagar .. i thought i was sooo lost already until i realized that this was just the next block from Outram! haha. so I walked further ....
and then I saw a Buddhist temple. Im a curious tourist so I entered ..  but before you explore the area they ask you to wear sarongs if in case you were not in proper attire (meaning: shorts, sleeveless tops, mini skirts .. you know!), so I complied and tried to get absorbed with being Buddhist for the next 30 minutes .. I was not transformed.

the sacred roof garden ..
and im out of the temple! .. i stood outside for a few minutes  thinking which direction to take next .. while scanning the area, across the street, I saw this and im sure that was a heart attack that i felt -- the LOMO STORE! :))) I have always been fascinated with lomography. another dream i have is to own my own lomos (that's plural!) and be a lomographer  ..  I already knew that Lomo cameras were sold in singapore and that they had one main store in the city (which at that time, i did not know where it is located)  so finding this is worth the time i got lost! and I am certainly proud of this discovery, not even my friends are not aware there was a lomography shop in the lion city!
i am still not over lomography! .. i went out of the lomo store feeling  anxious, excited, overwhelmed and happy  although empty-handed, it was def love at first sight in there .. so, i continued to wander around, in love! until i reached an unusually red building -- the red dot traffic design museum-- the museum that showcases living example of our everyday preference and product culture -- whatever that means. i did not see the exhibit anyway because there was an $8 fee. haha. maybe next time!
so, what kind of fool are you? .. i found this junk shop on my way home. i didn't get the chance to check out the store tough because it was "closing time already" according to uncle .. just caught a glimpse of some really interesting antiques, everything old school. i still have to visit this place again. so, seeyou again singapura!
last two weeks .. i thought that if nothing happens with my job hunting  then i should at least enjoy my remaining days and make my trip to singapore totally worthwhile so i can write a blog entry about it .. right? right! :) 8/12 accomplished and that means another round of picturesssss! haha :p

.. and then the self-portrait! a proof that "i was there" .. 2 options: since i do all these alone, either i take them myself or i ask someone to take my picture. haha. its fun playing tourist! :p

The whole "getting lost" experience for me was fulfilling .. not everyone gets a chance, an opportunity and a moment like this and I wouldn't have it any other way! It just makes me look forward to my next lost series ..

And besides, what do i have to complain about?  it was another dream come true after all :)
